To engineer, implement and maintain highly capable & effective digitalised and automated manufacturing processes that meet business goals and objectives, in conjunction with providing the wider technical / engineering support necessary, as part of the site’s delivery of automated solutions, which result in optimal quality, manufacturing and engineering practices.

  • Develop and maintain, robust and maintainable code utilising class-based object orientated framework as required.
  • Liaise with the global digital plant team and develop/implement the sites digitalisation strategy.
  • Lead initiatives in the standardization of digital tools and automated equipment, including the preparation of standards/specifications.
  • Lead the development of Automation & Digitalisation criteria for new equipment purchases and introduction in line with the site’s Automation and Digitalisation strategy.
  • Ensure full compliance with all regulatory, site and divisional requirements with respect to validation of equipment and software systems.
  • Provide software design and automated controls technical guidance to both operations and project engineering teams.
  • Collaborate with operations and CI engineering teams to develop and optimise the existing processes through software and controls solutions.
  • Lead code changes to the sites automated systems through ISA levels 0-4 in adherence with change control practices
  • Lead multiple strategic Automation & Digitalisation projects.
  • Generate all the necessary documentation for software applications developed locally such as, FDS, SDS, UM, Test scripts etc.
  • Liaise with vendors to ensure the Automation & Digitalisation teams requirements are scoped correctly and documented to support Stryker’s manufacturing roadmap.
  • Keeps up to date with all technological advancements in applicable engineering disciplines.
  • Research new technology and industry best practices and apply knowledge to products and processes.

  • Provide support and technical guidance to engineers within the team
  • All other duties as assigned.

  • Level 8 Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineer, Computer Science or related field with equivalent technical experience is required.
  • Has a minimum of 6 years software and controls experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong technical background is essential for this role (PLC, HMI, Robotics, Vision, Motion Control, Database Design).
  • Experience with Allen Bradley and or Siemens controls systems is required.
  • Experience of scripting programming languages such as Java, C, Python, would be advantageous.
  • Experience of Object Orientated Programming and SQL Server DB design would be advantageous.
  • Good knowledge of ISA95 and ISA88 design/implementation.

  • Good knowledge of GMP / FDA & BSI regulatory requirements and current Health and Safety Regulations and legislation.

  • A proven track record in designing, commissioning, validating, and maintaining automated solutions.

  • Proven Project Management skills through the delivery of Automation and or Digitalisation projects.

  • A confident and effective decision maker, with a proven leadership ability to negotiate and influence others.

  • A team player, with a flexible approach.

  • Capable of working autonomously or as part of a multi-disciplined team in an aggressive, dynamic and results motivated environment.
